Verde Valley Leadership (VVL) is a one-year program. The year starts off with a two-day retreat in August and concludes with a graduation dinner in July the following calendar year. Graduation is earned after completion of all program components and pending board approval.
The success of VVL is contingent on class members' engagement and full participation in the program. Class members are welcomed into the program with a two-day retreat which includes orientation to VVL and the beginning of in-depth leadership skills training. This orientation prepares the class members and educates them on the history of VVL, tasks to be completed in the year ahead, and provides them with a networking opportunity with alumni and VVL supporters. The rest of the two-day retreat provides in-depth leadership skills training and an opportunity to build new relationships between class members and alumni of Verde Valley Leadership. In addition, there are six (6) Issue Days in each class year plus a Mid-Year Skills Day and a Synthesis Day leading up to graduation. There are also required field trips and Shadow Day activities. Attendance at scheduled functions, involvement in all events, and interaction among class members is essential to the total learning experience. Graduation standards have been established to ensure participants of VVL have met these obligations to the program, their classmates, their sponsors, and to the community.
There are five (5) basic components creating the program structure during the first year:
